While people in Dangriga were still celebrating National Garifuna Day on the
night of November nineteenth, a misunderstanding between two men has landed
one in the hospital and one in jail. It is not certain what started the argument
between Santiago Ciau Jr. and Dorian Welcome. But police investigations reveal
that Santiago Ciau Jr. was standing in front of a night club on St. Vincent
Street near the main bridge when he was approached by Dorian Welcome.
A misunderstanding between the men reportedly started and it was during this
time that Dorian Welcome who was allegedly armed with a machete chopped Ciau
on his right hand. The chop was severe and tonight Santiago Ciau Jr. remains
hospitalized at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
As for his attacker? Dorian Welcome was arrested and charged for use of deadly
means of harm, dangerous harm and attempted murder.
