Eco-Friendly Solution at the City Dump
posted (November 23, 2009)

Belize City has more garbage than the City Council knows how to deal with it and Eco-Friendly Solutions says it has the solution. Their secret is liquid oxygen and according to Luis Garcia from Eco-Friendly Solutions, one spray of liquid oxygen can fast track decomposition of garbage. So a pile of garbage that would normally take years to decompose – would only take months with the solution. Garcia made the pitch to the City Council at the dump this afternoon and we were there for the explanation.

Luis Garcia, Eco-Friendly Solutions
“The product is hydrogen dioxide and what it does basically is it injects oxygen to organic matter so that the bacteria in the waste will start basically working faster. It turns aerobic so it don’t release methane gas, it doesn’t release hydrogen sulphide and basically what it does, very simple, is give the bacteria oxygen to work faster, better, and much stronger.

For example any organic matter, for example grass, will take 120 days to decompose or maybe a little less depending on the conditions. With our product it will take 45 to 50 days. It also reduces the odors as well so it makes a big difference.”

Phillip Willoughby, Belize City Councillor
“The Council as the Mayor has stated, we’ll be taking the leading role to say we are the ones who have to deal with this dump site, we are the ones who have to deal with garbage but if we utilize the products of Eco-Friendly Solutions then it reduces to a great and by large extent what we have to deal with in terms of garbage everyday if it can decompose.”

Keith Swift,
“So will you utilizing the liquid oxygen?”

Phillip Willoughby,
“Well again as you see what we did here is an experiment. We are testing it to see the validity of it, if it does work or not and from there we table it to the council and see where we go from there.”

The garbage in the test pile should be gone within a month so the City Council plans to check back on December 23rd. The company also pitched its line of biodegradable disposable plates, forks, spoons, and garbage bags made out of starch.
