You may know of Rizden Clare the rapper, but tonight we’ll introduce
you to Rizden Clare the writer, editor, and publisher. Last week Rizden published
the inaugural issue of his new newspaper. It is called “The Hot Zone”
and Rizden says it has everything the other weeklies don’t. He bills it
as the stethoscope to the pulse in Belize’s streets. He told us it is
geared towards youths and so instead of the diet of crime and politics –
Ridzen says the Hot Zone focuses on art, music, shopping, travel, and style.
Rizden Clare, “The Hot Zone”
“It is diverse unlike the other newspapers. This paper has health,
music, shopping, travel, style, health, education. It is diverse unlike the
others that just deal solely with the crime and politics.
This will create an atmosphere whereby people’s mindset will now be turned on towards looking for something better. For example they longer have
to say well, crime and all the violence is getting out of hand and everywhere
you turn there is a newspaper everywhere you turn. Well no more, this newspaper
will provide you with locations for you to go and have fun. It will create a
different atmosphere for you to realize that it is not all crime and violence.
Now there is an avenue with locations in this newspaper for you to say, I could
go here and have or I could go there and have fun.
It will definitely create a new mindset out there for people because the
atmosphere is already filled with a whole lot of crime and crime is one of the
main things always on the front page. If it is not crime, it is politics. Well
society does have a whole lot of other things that are happening that could
be positive in reference to promoting and this is one of the approaches to that.
And apart from that, this will sponsor my musical career. If I have me an established
business, I could push this business and promote my music that way.”
The paper retails for a dollar and is available widely. For more information:
