The Coast Guard has come a long way since it was formed in 2005 and
today it doubled its manpower with the addition of 35 new sailors. The 29 men
and 6 women in recruit intake number 2 passed out in a graduation ceremony this
morning at the Williamson Complex in Ladyville. Here are some highlights.
Hon. Carlos Perdomo, Minister of National Security
“Encourage you to remain focus on your Coast Guard mission. And that
is to enforce all laws at seas by conducting maritime patrols, monitor, prevent,
detect, interdict and arrest and support the prosecution of illegal or criminal
activities at sea thereby maintaining the maritime environment free of threats
and enabling safety, security, and prosperity within Belizean waters.
I have seen the Coast Guard grow in a very short period into trustworthy
and viable force that was respected and recognized not only in Belize but regionally
with our neighbours and also internationally. It is especially gratifying to
know that through the commitment of our government of Belize and Ministry the
Coast Guard is receiving the required support to grow and to expand to reach
its established strength in order to fulfil its national security goals and
responsibilities.”
Charles Francisco received an award for Champion Recruit, Genero Chan
for Champion Marksman, Goevaughan Cocom as Champion Seamanship, Jack Alford
for Champion Physical Training, Arthur Garbutt as Belize Aquatic Skills, and
Keyren Tzib won the best female awards.
