Around three thirty this evening GS Com at number eight Baymen Avenue
was robbed of what we believe to be an undisclosed amount of cash. We can’t
say for sure because police and the company’s management are remaining
tight lipped on this one. When 7News arrived on the scene the shutters of the
building were partly down and police investigators were inside interviewing
management.
From what we’ve been able to piece together, employees and customers
were inside when two unidentified young men walked into GS Com. The company
we understand has its own security and it is believed the assailants may have
entered the establishment posing as customers and that is why they may not have
initially appeared to be suspicious to anyone.
7News did speak to the owner of a business just across from where the
hold-up occurred but he says he was not even aware that a crime had taken place
only a few feet away from his bicycle repair shop.
Raynard Hunter, Owner - Bike Repair Shop
“I didn’t see anything. I just, after when I looked up I saw
the shutters come down and a guy came by and asked me what happened there and
I told him I am not really sure and after that I saw the police came by.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“When did you realize that a robbery had taken place?”
Raynard Hunter,
“When couple customers that came by started to ask me what happened
there and I told them I am not sure but probably a robbery or a gunshot.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“Did any of the employees or any of the customers run outside or were
everybody locked in doors?”
Raynard Hunter,
“Basically the business operated like a normal business, people were
coming in and going out.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“But I mean after the robbery, did any of the customers who were inside
run outside of GS COM or where everybody locked indoors?”
Raynard Hunter,
“They were inside and when the police came they lift the shutters
back.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
“As a business man, as an entrepreneur, it is Christmas time the guys
are probably busy on the street, this thing just happened across from your establishment,
how scared are you that probably one day this thing might happen to you?”
Raynard Hunter,
“Believe you me I am not scared. You got to be prepared and you got
to be alert and if somebody gets the upper hand of you then it is best to give
out whatever cash, wealth, material things that you have and from then you can
always move on. You can go to some strategic plan or call it a loss, whatever.”
Up to news time the Police Press Officer Clement Palacio did not have
any information on the hold-up.
