There was a murder last night in the city and the bizarre circumstances
have left police puzzled. 20 year old Leonel Jose Donaire was found dead this
morning but he was killed last night and then dumped in a residential neighbourhood
before daylight. The body was discovered at daybreak and that is where our team
picked up on it.
Keith Swift Reporting,
Residents at the corner of Jabiru Street and Faber’s Road awoke at 6 this morning to the frightening sight of a dead body in front of their homes.
The body was in plain view – the young man of Hispanic descent was lying
face up and he was wearing an orange shirt and short jeans pants. More telling
is that his hands were tied with what appeared to us to be duct tape. The cause of death was likely the gunshot wound to the head.
The victim has been identified as 20 year old Leonel Jose Donaire, a mechanic.
He left his home in the Driftwood Bay Community at mile 4 on the Northern Highway
in his car around 10 pm last night after receiving a telephone call. No one
knows where he went but police investigators believe he was killed elsewhere
and then dumped in the conspicuous area in a well populated neighbourhood on
Faber’s Road
Leonel’s murder is confounding to police and his family because he lived
in this neighbourhood on the north side - and his body was dumped on the other
side of the city – deep in the south side on Faber’s Road. His car
has not been recovered. His family declined comment.
At news time police still had not located Leonel Donaire’s car
which is a red Geo Prism.
