Today the grand prize winner was chosen in the MADISCO “Beat
The Hard Times” Sweepstakes. But tonight we can’t tell you who won,
we only have the number which was chosen to receive the $12,000 prize. To remind
you how it works again - more than a million packs of cigarettes which were
sold since June carried a unique number. Of those one point two million numbers,
400 were randomly selected by a computer to compete for one of today’s
four prizes. The winning numbers were chosen this morning at Brodies on the
Northern Highway and 7News was there. We spoke to Charles Woods Jr., the Manager
of Madisco.

“What we did when we started the promotion, every year we have a promotion
to try and assist us in competing against contraband products. As we’ve
said before, contraband is a huge problem for our products here in Belize. There
is a large illlegitmate trade in contraband cigarettes. The purpose of these
promotions is to try and convince those adults who smoke to continue supporting
our products and stop buying contraband products and we fell the annual promotions
help in that regard.”
