A woman was shot last night in downtown Belize City. The barrage of gunshots
rang out at around 9:30 near the corner of Albert and South Streets -which is
just a block from our studios. It sounded like pop shots but they were real
bullets which injured one woman in her right palm. Police haven’t released
her name or even disclosed where the incident occurred. She told police she
was in the area at the time with her common-law husband and her uncle when they
heard the gunshots. She says she later realized that she had been shot in the
palm.
Police Press Officer Clemente Palacio told us that the reason why the details
are scarce is because it is quote, “a sensitive issue.”
