Twenty three year old Darrington Lauriano who was recently released from prison
after having served six months is back behind bars. Today he was arraigned in
Magistrate’s Court on the charge of robbery. Lauriano pleaded not guilty
to the charge. Court reports are that chief magistrate Margaret McKenzie explained
to him that the court cannot offer him bail because the offense was committed
with a firearm. Darrington Lauriano was then remanded to the Belize Central
Prison until January twenty second, 2010.
The robbery occurred around one on Thursday, December seventeenth. According
to twenty eight year old delivery man for Quality Poultry Products Ottoniel
Pech he and sideman were making deliveries in Windmill Area of Hattieville Village
when they were approached by two persons, one of them armed with a pistol. Pech
said the gunman pointed his gun at him and stole a cell phone valued at three
hundred dollars. Darrington Lauriano was detained the following day. The police
reported that he was positively identified as one of the robbers.
The second suspect is still at large. Darrington Lauriano is no stranger to
the police. On January 2004, he was charged with the murder of Kareem “Butchie”
Broaster but the first trial ended in a hung jury.
