North Creek Security Guard Murdered Inside Home
posted (December 22, 2009)

The 91st. murder of 2009 occurred early this morning in Belize City. 26 year old security guard Albert Morgan Jr. was stabbed to death inside his home. It happened in the North Creek area which is known to be a hotspot with flare-ups of violence but there’s no tell tale signs of gang warfare or old beef in this case. Morgan was a working man and his home had not been burglarized; neither were there any signs of forced entry. So what could have led to his brutal death? That’s what Jacqueline Godwin found out today.

Jacqueline Godwin Reporting,
What happened inside this wooden house at 6743 North Creek Road? The police report that sometime before two this morning an unknown man entered and stabbed the homeowner twenty three year old security guard Albert Morgan Jr. two times. But information to 7News is that there were no signs of a forced entry and no evidence that a burglary had been committed.

Equally disturbing is that we understand the only other person inside the house at the time was Albert Morgan Jr.’s wife who has been detained by police for questioning. The bloody attack took place around two this morning. One of the victim’s relatives who lives in the yard told 7News off camera that she did not see or hear anything. She says her cousin affectionately called junior was a family man and not known as a troublemaker.

Voice of Relative of Murder Victim,
“We do not know what really happened, everybody was sleeping at that time and we didn’t hear anything. We didn’t hear the dogs barking and usually we would hear the dogs if somebody would be coming into the yard. Apart from that nothing we heard. He was the type who was provoking but in a fun way, laughing and always smiling. He was somebody that was into his family, from work to home and to the store to buy groceries. On Sunday evening he would take his family for an evening walk and so. Apart from that Junior wasn’t somebody to be on the street, involved in crime and stuff like that.”

The relative says she only found that something serious had happened next door when the police and ambulance arrived at the home. Albert Morgan Sr. is troubled by the accounts being given as to how his son was killed and the family believes there is more to the story than what is being reported to authorities.

Jacqueline Godwin,
“I know the family does not live in Belize City so you don’t know exactly what transpired, all you’ve been hearing is what your son’s wife has been telling the family and that is….”

Albert Morgan Sr., Father of Murder Victim
“She says that my lil boy, Junior, had just come in and she said in a short while he got up to go to the bathroom but when he got up somebody was in the house and they got into a struggle and so he got stabbed. But when she did hear the commotion and she came out, she says she got into the struggle and took away the knife from the bwoy and the bwoy pushed her down, grabbed back the knife and run gone with the knife. So I really don’t know because we can’t get much sense from it because the police got her in custody and nobody else was there, only those two were there so there is no one else to tell us anything.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
“In speaking to me you look troubled by what she’s saying, like there seems to be more questions than answers.”

Albert Morgan Sr.,
“Yes because something is wrong because how can anybody come in your house, do you those things. To start with she said she took away the knife from the man and the man pushed her and he grabbed back the knife and run. According to information when you get to the house my son’s blood is on the last step. What was he doing outside in boxers in this cold. I don’t understand it because the bathroom is right downstairs so I don’t see the sense of why he has to go to the bathroom and then he has to come outside. I don’t really get it.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
“What is incredible is I spoke to a relative this morning who lives in the same yard and she says that they were asleep and didn’t hear anything which makes it even more suspicious.”

Albert Morgan Sr.,
“Exactly because they have two dogs and not even we can walk into the yard. Even on the street the dogs are attacking you. I don’t see how somebody can come into the yard like that or you would alarm somebody. So I don’t know what to say, she is saying so I will leave it to the police to find out what’s happening but something will come out. It is kind of thickly so we will see what will happen.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
“Because so far it doesn’t look like it was the case of a break-in?”

Albert Morgan Sr.,
“I don’t think so. I can’t even talk about robbery because it is a old house. I think he has some board to repair the house. What is there to rob? Nothing is there to rob. The house needs repair. They don’t have nothing and I can’t think about enemy because my son, I have never heard him talk about enemy or be with anybody who has mishap or something.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
“Exactly cause that is what we have been hearing two; hard worker, he was a security guard with the Provident Bank, no reason for anyone to take his life.”

Albert Morgan Sr.,
“I talked to one of his friends and they said if anyone had problems with him, he would have told him but he didn’t tell him nothing so he don’t believe Junior had problems with anyone.”

Like we said the family believes the wife described to us only as a traffic warden may know more than what she has been telling police. Unconfirmed reports to 7News say that Albert Morgan Jr. was stabbed two times once to he left side of the chest and the other to the left upper arm. Jacqueline Godwin for 7News.

And a slight correction to that story – we reported that Morgan Junior is 23 – that’s what the police reported in their official release, but the family has since told us that he is 26. Up to news time reports were that Morgan Jr’s wife was still detained.
