It probably wasn’t early enough for dialysis crusader Jose Cruz but today
the Ministry of Health announced that it has finalized a memorandum of understanding
with the World Organization of Renal Therapies known as WORTH. WORTH is an organization
that has offered to provide Belize with free dialysis machines. They threatened
to also withdrew the offer earlier this year because government was dragging
its feet on the MOU.
Well now that MOU is ready and it will be taken to cabinet for approval next
week Tuesday. Under the agreement, WORTH will provide the dialysis units and
government will pay for the renovation and construction of faculties at both
the Karl Heusner Hospital in Belize City and the La Loma Luz Hospital in Santa
Elena. The MOU will be presented to Cabinet as a possible alternative option
for affordable dialysis services in Belize.
