Audrey Morgan killed her husband Albert Morgan Jr. she stabbed him to death.
But she’s a free woman because Director of Public Prosecutions Cheryl
Lyn Vidal says that by all outward indications, she did it in self defence.
As we reported on Wednesday, police handed the case over to the DPP to determine
whether or not any charges will be brought against Audrey Morgan. DPP Vidal
told us that police found no evidence that contradicts Audrey Morgan’s
claim of self defence. According to Vidal only Audrey Morgan has useful information
about what happened inside the house.
The DPP says Audrey Morgan told police that she and her husband got into a
struggle after he came home in the early morning of December twenty second.
Morgan reported that Albert Morgan Junior was in a rage and started throwing
and breaking things and he then lifted her off the ground, holding her by the
neck. That is when she says she reached for a knife and stabbed him. The DPP
told 7News, “there is no eyewitness evidence that contradicts the
statement” and “all of the evidence so far supports the
wife’s account of what happened.”
She added that the post mortem examination determined that he was stabbed from
an angle – as would be the case if someone stabbed him from above –
which again fits in with her explanation that he lifted her off the ground while
strangling her. A medical examination also confirmed that there were bruises
around her neck.
But what about the bogus story Audrey Morgan gave police when was taken into
custody? She claimed that an intruder had killed her husband. According to the
DPP the important thing there is that she did not implicate herself in the first
account, and the double talk still does is not enough to build a case on. With
all that, the DPP told us the investigation is not closed; it remains open but
at this time they have no evidence to contradict her statement.
So tonight Audrey Morgan, the mother of four young children is back home, a
free woman – for the time being at least. In the meantime Albert Morgan
Junior’s family is getting ready to lay him to rest on Saturday.
