Foreign Minster Wilfred Elrington is in the middle of a firestorm of controversy
– in fact, the best he can hope for is that he’ll be saved by Christmas
and that the vicious spin cycle he’s in will ease off with the “Pascua.”
But, we’d say, from the looks of things, it’s not likely. And that’s
because KREMANDALA media has declared an all out war with Elrington. And it’s
not just a war of words; KREM TV has written to Elrington informing him that
his television show Belizean Exposure has been cancelled, effective immediately.
Elrington had been hosting and sponsoring the weekly show on KREM TV for the
past few years. He told the Amandala newspaper on Tuesday that he was paying
$3,200 per month out of his pocket to sponsor the show because he, “want(s)
to see the empire succeed...without the little assistance...they might not be
able to continue to employ everybody.” Elrington went on to imply
that in spite of the gesture of support on his part, he felt he was being unfairly
“persecuted” by KREM TV and the Amandala newspaper.
Well, offence taken! KREM TV’s manager Mose Hyde interpreted that to
mean that Elrington felt that he had somehow purchased an alliance and apparently
to disabuse him of that notion, a KREM TV representative says that they yesterday
sent Elrington a letter notifying him that their business relationship has been
terminated.
Mose Hyde has been the most outspoken public critic of Elrington for his use
of the word “Artificial” to describe Belize’s border with
Guatemala.
