Police have two persons in custody in connection with their investigation into
the grenade attack on Kraal Road. There were rumours that one man would be charged
today but that didn’t pan out. Commissioner Crispin Jeffries told us this
evening that they will most likely seek the advice of the DPP’s Office
before bringing charges. But will those charges be brought before the New Year’s
holiday on Friday? At 6:00 this evening, Jeffries told us that he expects that
someone will be charged before the New Year holiday on Friday.
Jeffries also acknowledged that one of the triggers for what he yesterday characterized
as warfare between George Street and Kraal Road may be connected to the disappearance
of a man named Glen Smith in Hattieville. 7News has confirmed that Smith disappeared
almost ten days ago. He is known to be a relative of principal members of the
George Street gang – and, again, police are examining the connection between
this disappearance and the violence being directed at Kraal Road.
