Last night on this newscast, Belize City mechanic Fernando Searle and his girlfriend
Tanya Pitts accused Police Corporal Mark August of viciously attacking them
on Christmas Eve and then again on Boxing Day. The news tonight is that Corporal
August will be criminally charged on Monday. He will face 7 charges including
wounding.
Searle claims that Corporal August hit him with a wheel spanner, breaking his
left hand and damaging his right foot. Pitts claims that August slapped her
and in addition beat her on Boxing Day with a metal pipe. The injuries required
hospitalization for both Searle and Pitts. It all had to do with a car stereo
stolen from Corporal August’s car while Searle was repairing it at his
shop at mile one and a half on the Western Highway. August has maintained that
Searle stole the car stereo and DVD player and also failed to repair his car
with the parts provided. August says he lost close to $2,000 and still has a
vehicle that is not working.
August is expected to appear in Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday but at
this time the decision has not been made to place him on interdiction.
