20 year old Kareem Arnold was today charged in the Belize City magistrate’s
court for possession of unlicensed ammunition. But he and a 16 year old minor
are wanted in Belmopan for burglary and car theft. The two are the prime suspects
in the burglary of Garson Ramanarce’s home in Belmopan over the New Year’s
weekend.
Ramnarace told police that he went to sleep on Saturday night and when we got
up on Sunday morning at around 9 – his black 1997 Ford F-150 pickup was
missing. He later discovered that his house had also been burglarized. The thieves
made off with more $35,000 in appliances and other possessions. The pickup which
was recovered in Belize City is valued at $30,000. A number of the stolen items
were also recovered.
Kareem Arnold, who is a resident of Ladyville, will be charged for the theft
and burglary in Belmopan once he gets through in Belize City.
Arnold was busted with a box of 20 nine milimeter Smith and Wesson brand bullets
by a patrol team on Sunday morning on Mahogany Street. Police say when they
approached him, Anold threw a box on the top of a roof. Police say when they
checked – they found the box with 20 rounds of 9 milimeter calibre ammunition.
In court he pleaded not guilty to the charge and bail was denied. He was remanded
to custody until March 3rd.
Arnold was convicted in August of 2009 for possession of unlicensed firearm
and ammunition. He was fined $10,000 and given until January 28th to pay. If
he doesn’t – he will face a 3 year jail sentence. And if all that
wasn’t enough, Kareem Arnold has a case pending for 2 counts of assaulting
a police officer and aggravated assault.
And then of course there are the charges for this weekend’s burglary
and car theft pending in Belmopan. He will face those charges later this week.
