The Eusey home at the corner of Regent and South Streets - it’s one of
the most historic residential structures in Belize. But tonight it’s in
imminent danger of collapsing. City Councillor Dion Leslie called our office
this evening to ask us to warn city residents to stay clear of the area. Leslie
told us that the City Engineer has advised him that the building is a public
risk. The owners will be asked to demolish it tomorrow.
It is noted as one of the only buildings in Belize with a brick cellar –
which is similar to the Government House. It is also one of the only residential
structures still remaining that is dressed in shingles. Indeed, the look is
from a bygone era and sadly so is the dilapidated structure, which we repeat
is in danger of collapsing tonight. So as much as possible city residents are
being advised to steer clear of it.
