COMPOL Jeffries Backtracks on Andre Aguilar Timeline
posted (January 7, 2010)

One week ago Police commissioner Crispin Jeffries told the media that Andre Aguilar was held for 24 hours. Aguilar you will recall was with Chris Galvez when he was executed at a boat yard on Faber’s road on December 22. He had picked up Galvez at his home and was the last persons seen with him.

But police released Aguilar before the post mortem in Galvez was conducted. Now, Jeffries has backtracked. He today told us he was misled; Galvez was not detained for 24 hours, he was detained for 18. Jeffries says that a check of the police personnel diary shows that he was documented in detention at 12:35 am on the 23rd and was released at 6:30 pm – which is 18 not 24 hours. Jeffries said, “I was misled and not made aware until after...” He says Aguilar was released because he was no longer of interest to investigators.

The time is critical because yesterday a young man who was in the cell with Aguilar – told us that at 3:30 am on the 23rd Aguilar was taken out of the cell and up to 9:00 am – he had not returned. A Ministry of National Security Inquiry into the release of Aguilar is being conducted. We’re told that police have been detaining some high profile persons in connection with the Galvez murder late this evening – but that is yet to be confirmed.
