City Council Gets Green Light to Demolish Eusey House
posted (January 12, 2010)

There is an update tonight about the Eusey home at the corner of South and Albert Streets. As we reported last week, the City Council wants to demolish the annex of the historic home because they feel the structure is in danger of imminent collapse. In fact the corner of Albert and South Streets has remained closed since last week Thursday when the walls of the annex began crumbling. The Eusey family told us on Friday that they simply have no where else to go. The Councillor in charge of Works on the Southside Dean Samuels told us this evening that the city council will demolish the annex of the historic house.

Dean Samuels, Councillor – Works
“I received a letter asking approval from the Belize City Council, if we could come and we could personally assist him in taking down the annex part of the building for the reason that he does not have the financial capability right now to do this. We have no problem with it, we will go there again. It is about safety for him and for people within the area, so we will assist him. So we got a letter from him giving us approval to go and help with the problem.”

Keith Swift,
“When will that be done?”

Dean Samuels,
“That is right away that problem should be solved.”

The Eusey family expects they will be able to continue living in the house once the annex is removed.
