High Power Rifle and Ammo Off the Street
posted (January 12, 2010)

As the Belize Defence Force and the police continue to look for the m4 carbine weapon that was stolen from the BDF’s guard room, tonight Belize City Police report that a high powered weapon has been taken off the streets. The police press release states that the gun, a Galil rifle including three 5.56 calibre rounds and thirteen .38 rounds of ammunition were found in an abandoned lot on Iguana Street Extension. The galil is an Israeli machine gun used by the Guatemalan military.

The police say the recovery was made following a tip they received that led them to the location. At the time of the search no one was in the area and no one has been arrested.

One man who has been arrested for a firearm is 26 year old Andy Forbes. Yesterday afternoon police were on patrol when they saw him in front of his gate on Neal’s Pen Road. When he saw the police, Forbes – they say – ran into his yard and threw an objected into his neighbour’s yard. Police caught Forbes and recovered the object which they say was an unloaded .25 Ex-Cam brand pistol. According to reports Forbes had a misunderstanding with another man shortly before the arrest.

He was charged with keeping a firearm without a gun license and pleaded not guilty. As with all firearm offences, he was remanded into custody until February 24th.
