Scarcity of Resources and Abundance of Wants for Hutchy
posted (January 12, 2010)

Michael Hutchinson from Belize Rural Central is a first term area representative – and like a miracle baby – he won out against the odds. He beat Ralph Fonseca back into retirement but filling the shoes of one of the most well-monied representatives in modern political history hasn’t been easy. Hutchy as he is affectionately called is under pressure with over 500 applications for assistance from the Venezuelan Housing Grant. Only a very small percentage of those who asked shall receive: 60 persons have gotten home improvement loans while 7 new homes have been approved for construction and three have been completed. One was recently finished and Hutchy spoke about the disparity between the scarcity of resources and the abundance of wants.

Michael Hutchinson, Belize Rural Central Area Rep.
“Over some 500 applications have come into my office so far and I am telling you I wish that the money was enough to handle each person because I do believe they all have needs and some of them are genuine. But unfortunately it is only about $500,000 and if you should divide that up, it can’t go far. Concerning new houses, it is a total of 7 new houses I want to build with the Venezuelan housing and so far three of the houses have been approved that are in Hattieville today and another three are on the way for this year coming for Ladyville and La Democracia.”

$267,000 of Area Rep Huthinson’s fund have been disbursed.
