Last night we had breaking news about a shooting on Rocky Road. The victim
is Kyle Edwards of a Reggae Street address. He was hit multiple times but survived
the gunshot injuries to the right upper arm, right shoulder and left side of
his head. Kyle Edwards was rushed to the KHMH and admitted in a critical condition.
When we contacted the hospital today they told us that he had undergone surgery
and is in a stable condition recovering in the post operative ward.
Police Press Officer Assistant Superintendent of Police Bart Jones told 7News
that today Kyle Edwards gave them an account of what happened and initial investigation
is that there is nothing to suggest the shooting is in connection with the ongoing
violence with rival gangs.
So what happened? Police report that Kyle Edwards was riding his bicycle on
West Canal between South and Berkeley Streets when he was approached from behind
by a lone gunman. The shooter fired several shots at Kyle Edwards who dropped
to the ground as he was being hit. Edwards was shot for no apparent reason and
so far unconfirmed reports to 7News is that it may have been as a result of
an old misunderstanding. While police confirmed to 7News that they are pursing
a person of interest no one has been detained for questioning.
