The Help Haiti Benefit Concert and Telethon is shaping up as one of
the biggest concerts ever to play on the bliss stage. Dozens of dancers, singers,
bands, poets, and performers have come forward to volunteer their talents and
resources. Kalilah Enriquez and James Sanker of the Belize Music Agency are
at the headwaters of the river of talent that’s rushing towards the Bliss.
Today Kalilah told us that it could be the greatest show ever.
Kalilah Enriquez, Organizer
“Help Haiti Benefit Concert and Telethon it is the biggest show ever
in Belize I believe. I haven’t been around long enough to declaratory
make that statement but it is the biggest show that I have ever seen in Belize.
We are talking over 6 bands, I mean bands with instruments, drum sets, keyboards,
everything you name it – they are going to be there. We are talking about
over 100 artists, musicians, dancers, singers, and a whole bunch of people –
you name it and they are going to be there. If they are a Belizean artist, a
Belizean performer, they are going to be at the Bliss on Saturday night at 6
pm. I mean so extensive is the line up that we had to move up the start time
from 7:30 to 6 pm because the support has been so overwhelming.”
Jules Vasquez,
“Now I know you guys are working on a crazy volume of logistics but among
those, most important among those is I know James says he wants a seamless show
because when people hear six bands they think they have to wait for each band
test and all of that.”
Kalilah Enriquez,
“No, we are going to be using one set of main instruments on the stage.
The way how James has set it up, I mean he is the technical person, he knows
the ins and outs here at the Bliss but there will be one set of instruments
on the stage and each band will be come in and will be using; adding, subtracting
and what not and we have it blended in such a way that there won’t be
interruptions or minimum interruptions. People if you can’t make it to
the Bliss, the Bliss holds 625 people, $10 to get in. If you can’t make
it to the Bliss, watch it on Channel 7, watch it on KREM TV, listen to it on
KREM Radio and call in with your donations. We will have a number for you shortly
but we really want to raise the money to help our brothers and sisters in Haiti.”
Jules Vasquez,
“But how have the artists been responding?”
Kalilah Enriquez,
“They have been responding with overwhelming support. Like is said
six bands, over 100 musicians, artists, and they are all giving of their time
so generously. No one has charged us except for minor things like transportation
and transporting equipment costs money, you have to pay gasoline and that type
of thing. But nobody has charged us, they are not asking for any money, people
are coming and donating their time and so we are asking for you to donate your
money to cause. Call us on Saturday night and donate your money to the people
of Haiti. If you can make it here to the Bliss, do so. It is only $10 to come
in.”
That toll free number provided kindly by BTL is “0-800-44-Haiti”
– and it’s not open yet. It will be opened on Saturday night at
6:00 when the show begins. As Kalilah mentioned, the price of admission is ten
dollars – and the proceeds from the gate go to the Belize Red Cross, so
if you want to contribute more at the door, you are encouraged to do so. Tune
in again tomorrow night when we’ll have another update on the Help Haiti
Benefit Concert and Telethon.
