An early night out ended in terror for two young women of Ladyville Village.
Police strongly believe the family which resides in the Lake Gardens area of
the village was probably being watched for days before the armed attack. Thirty
nine year old Judith Williamson told police that while she was home with her
mother sometime after seven on Friday night, she heard a vehicle pulled up.
Expecting it to be her sister and niece returning home, Williamson opened the
front door but instead of a friendly greeting, saw three men. One pointed a
hand gun to her niece’s head and another was holding a knife to her sister’s
throat. The men holding their two victims against their will then rushed into
the house and demanded money from the family. The armed assailants then ransacked
the home grabbing an assortment of items valued at twelve thousand, seven hundred
and fifty dollars. The men then left with the stolen jewellery, cell phones,
a lap top computer and five hundred and sixty one dollars in cash.
Police investigations reveal that the complainant’s niece and sister
had just pulled up inside their car, exited the vehicle to opened the gate and
that is when they were ambushed by men who were waiting for the two young women
to make their move. And while it will be sometime for the family to recover
from their terrifying ordeal, Ladyville Police were quick on the heels of the
armed burglars.
The investigation led them to thirty three year old Wilton Usher of Belize
City, twenty one year old Jaime Chavarria and thirty seven year old Eric Lewis
of Ladyville Village. Police have also recovered the silver and black twenty
five pistol from one of the suspects Wilton Usher, who allegedly held the gun
to one of the victim’s head. Several of the stolen items have also been
recovered.
Wilton Usher, Jaime Chavarria and Eric Lewis were charged with conspiracy to
commit burglary. Wilton Usher and Jaime Chavarria have additionally been charged
with aggravated burglary, kept firearm and ammunition without a gun license
and handling stolen goods. Chavarria was captured by police as he stood at the
corner of the Northern Highway and the entrance to Lord’s Bank. He was
also found with a Samsung cell phone valued at one thousand dollars. Eric Lewis,
Jaime Chavarria and Wilton Usher were all remanded to the Belize Central Prison
until their next court appearance on March eighteenth.
If the name Jaime Chavarria sounds familiar, it should. He was formerly charged
for the kidnapping and double homicide of thirty two year old Dorian Michael
and twenty four year old Keiva Leslie but all charges against him dropped when
he reportedly struck a deal to be crown witness for the prosecution but the
case was thrown out when he failed to show up to testify.
