Filming wrapped today on the sci-fi thriller “Mega Piranha.”
The movie about giant man eating piranhas is set in Venezuela but for the last
four days, the action scenes were filmed in Belize. The film crew were all over
the country – shooting a high speed car chase in the Yabra area; they
were snorkelling in the cayes, and did a river tour along, and today they were
at the International Airport which is where we went behind the scenes.
Keith Swift Reporting,
And it was action this morning at the Phillip Goldson Airport as the filming
crew from Asylum Pictures were in and around the airport shooting the final
scenes of the movie “Mega Piranha.”
Eric Forsberg, Writer/Director
“It is about scientists who have experimented on piranhas to try to
make them more meaty so that they will become a food source and they genetically manipulated. The piranhas get out of control, they grow and grow and grow and
escape and eventually start killing people, everything they see, rampaging down
the river out to the ocean.”
The star of the movie is Paul Logan from Days Of Our Lives fame.
Paul Logan, Star - Mega Piranha
“I was on Days of Our Lives for two and a half years, Friends, Angels
Smith, a bunch of movies for Sci-Fi Channel as well. I did Mega Faults, I did
Eliminator, Terminators, and I did Ballistica. So a lot of action stuff. I’ve
been doing martial arts since I was 13 so I do those action and fight stuff.”
But in Mega Piranhas, Logan is a Navy Seals who came to save the world.
Paul Logan,
“My character is a Navy Seals. There is a yacht full of dignitaries
that disappeared on this river and we are not sure if it is terrorists or an
explosion or kidnapping and it turns out it is these giant mutated piranhas
that are about 2 feet long and they eat the whole boat and all the people on it. I am a Navy Seals and they send me down here to find out what happened with
these people and I slowly figure out what is going on and have to figure out
how to fight these things. I had to learn how to dive in two days. I did underwater
fight scenes so it was nice. Everyone here has been so nice and it was a great
experience.”
The movie was actually shot in Venezuela but Belize was chosen as the location
for the action scenes.
Keith Swift,
“Why did you choose Belize?”
Eric Forsberg,
“It is an absolute beautiful country and Belize plays a lot of countries
in the world. Right now we are playing Venezuela and you have rivers, you have
jungles, you have cities, you have beautiful coral reefs, and so many spectacular
things here. The people are so friendly, everybody wants to be involved, and
so it is a great country to film in. We shot up by the Black Orchid Resort along
the river, we shot in the jungle, and we shot all through Belize City, we shot
up by the reef, and the rainforest.”
Mega Piranha will go straight to television and it will air on the
sci-fi network in April.
