Remember two year old Delsey White? She is the young child who was
severely beaten by her mother Shiann White and died two days later. That happened
in May of 2008 and following the horrible tragedy this is what the child’s
grandfather Earl Acosta Senior told 7News.

“If the law doesn’t give justice, sometimes other things happen
and people walk away but like I know, like I always say, God isn’t sleeping
and Jesus loves little children and Delsy was a little angel so you bet, justice
will be done.”
And, in a sense he was prophetic. Today one year and nine months later that
justice came after a jury of five men and four women unanimously agreed that
twenty three year old Shiann white is guilty of manslaughter. The trial Judge
Adolph Lucas has deferred sentencing until Thursday, February fourth. The time
was given for the mother’s attorney Philip Palacio to prepare for plea
for mitigation for his client. Shiann White at the time of the incident falsely
told Belize City police that her boyfriend Leon Lopez who is not the child’s
father was responsible.
But court reports are that was not the only lie she told police. Shiann White
later gave another account of what happened. She told authorities how Delsy 
White fell from the stairs of neighbour’s house and that she found her
daughter at the bottom of the stairs with a piece of board on top of her. But
later in a caution statement she finally admitted to the crime when she told
investigating officers that she and the boyfriend had quarrelled over food and
when he left she became frustrated and she beat her daughter.
A neighbour and family friend told 7News at the time
that the mother had been at her home for six hours when they returned to Shiann
White’s house to check on the child. The friend stated at the time that
she found Delsey lying under a sheet and that although it was extremely warm
in the house the child was covered from her chin to her feet. The friend claimed
that when she lifted the sheet Delsy was stiff from the waist down and there
was blood inside the child’s mouth, a cut on the throat and bruises all
over the body. She was breathing heavily and the child was unconscious
Young Delsy White also had two fractures on her skull. She was rushed to the
KHMH where she was placed on life support and died two days later. During court
proceedings Dr. Mario Estradabran who conducted the post mortem examination
testified that the child died from head trauma and that there were over ten
injuries to the body.
Shiann White is the mother of three young children. At the time of the incident
there were also disturbing reports that not only was Delsy White a young victim
of physical abuse but at the time of her death her four month old brother had
also been beaten.
As we noted in the top of the report, the mother Shiann White will be sentenced
on Thursday, February fourth.
