Tonight 35 year old Special Constable John Myvett is out on bail. Myvette was
charged on Monday for extortion and obtaining services by deception after he
allegedly accepted $2,685 from accused child molester Keon “Gambis”
Williams. He was remanded for the crime after the police prosecutor told the
court that the investigation is ongoing and more charges could follow. Magistrate
Kathleen Lewis agreed and he was remanded to prison until today. There were
no new charges, so he was bailed.
But investigators say Constable Myvette was the one granting an unofficial
bail on Janaury twelfth. That’s when Gambis Williams was charged for committing
an unnatural crime after being accused of sodomizing a 14 year old boy. Williams
was denied bail and remanded to prison but he never made it there because he
allegedly paid Special Constable Myvett $2,685 to set him free.
Today in court Myvett was released on bail of $5,000 plus two sureties of $2,500
each. His case was adjourned to March 25th.
This is the second time Myvette has gone before the court on charges. In the
first case – which was in March of 2008 - he was accused of beating up
a prisoner in the holding cell at the court. He was not convicted of that offence.
