The saying goes, if you do not succeed at first, try and try again well that
is exactly what forty one year old Lancelot Arana Longsworth did but the only
thing he managed to succeed at is getting arrested and charged for attempted
burglary. Court reports are that the accused was caught on his third attempt
to break into a warehouse on the Port of Belize’s compound.
It happened around six fifty five on the evening of January twenty seventh.
Twenty nine year old security guard Jermaine Martinez was working at the Belize
Port Authority when his attention was drawn to Lancelot Arana Longsworth. He
was hard at work at the back of the warehouse, busily ripping off one of the
building’s plywood sheets with a crowbar.
According to Martinez, he and another security guard approached Longsworth
but he ran. Both security guards pursued the fleeing suspect and finally caught
up with him. Longsworth was subdued by the men until Belize City police arrived
on the scene and took him into custody at the Queen Street Police Station.
And though he was caught on the compound, today in court Lancelot Arana Longsworth
pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempted burglary. The prosecution objected
to bail pointing out to Magistrate Aretha Ford that the accused has three charges
still pending, one for burglary and two for handling stolen goods.
Magistrate Aretha Ford upheld the objection and Lancelot Arana Longsworth was
remanded to Belize Central Prison until his next court appearance on March fifteenth.
