Two Belize City men were killed in the last 24 hours and the third
to receive serious injury is a teenager and he’s on life support. The
prognosis for 19 year old Dorrell Williams Jr. is grim after he was shot in
the eye last night at this time at the corner of Central American Boulevard
and Faber’s Road. It was a wild shooting spree that left three other persons
with varying degree of injury. But the teenaged Williams is the only one who
it appears may lose his life – I found out more form his father today.
Jacqueline Godwin Reporting,
Dorrel Williams Junior, a 2008 graduate of Gwen Lizarraga High School is the
only son of Dorrell Williams Sr. Two years later the father is hoping against
all odds his son survives a critical shooting. Around six thirty on Monday night,
Dorrel William Junior’s life was tragically cut short by a bullet to the
face. He was shot just above the left eye, rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial
Hospital where he was declared clinically dead.
Today Dorrell Williams Senior told us that the family had decided to remove his son from life support but up to news time he was still on the machine at
the KHMH.
Dorrel Williams Sr., Father of Shooting Victim
“When I gone to the hospital the nurse said he done dead already so
they had him on the machine.”
This morning the father says when he visited the KHMH was told there was nothing
that could have been done to save his son’s life…….a life
Dorrell Williams Senior lamented could have been promising. In fact the father
who is a US national had already started the process to file for his son so
they could continue to work together as a team of plumbers in the United States.
Jacqueline Godwin,
“You had high hopes Dorrel.”
Dorrel Williams Sr.,
“Yes I have high hopes for him because I always told him to keep out
of trouble because his papers are in and thing but like he doesn’t listen
but he is not a person that gives trouble.”
But was Dorrel Williams the intended target or an innocent victim to the ongoing
gun violence? The very disturbing news tonight is that Belize City Police say
that Dorrel Williams is just one of four persons shot by stray bullets fired
by two armed youths who are not believed to have been shooting at each other
but firing indiscriminately in the area. It all unfolded around six thirty by
this Chinese shop on Central American Boulevard.
The first three persons who got shot was sixty four year old Steven Rhamdas
who was crossing the street to go home when he was shot in the left palm. The
next victim is seven year old Jenny Moguel who remains hospitalized at Belize
Healthcare Partners Hospital with a bullet wound to the left upper shoulder. And twenty seven year old Robert Howard was riding his bike at the time when
he was shot to the head.
Dorrel Williams Junior who was only a short distance away from where his mother
lived is believed to have been the fourth person shot.
Dorrel Williams Sr.,
“I get a call and they say that they shot my son but what happen is
that they said he was by some Chiney, I nuh know the name of the Chiney and
when he got shot he run home by his mom’s house, where his mom lives,
and he dropped down. His mom thought he was playing but when she saw the blood
and thing they know he wasn’t playing.”
Police say they are looking for two main suspects. But now for the families
of the victims of what is now becoming a dangerous trend in Belize City say
the pain is just too much.
Dorrel Williams Sr.,
“I could say it terrible. The youths they need to ease up because
dah lone black man the kill black man and I will say it is terrible. I know
I am kind of nervous and thing but it is just terrible.”
Dorrel Williams Senior says he has only one message for those who shot his
son.
Dorrel Williams Sr.,
“I will just leave it to God. Godd nuh the sleep, just left it to
God.”
At the time Dorrell Williams Jr. was shot his father told 7News he
believed that recent events may have provided possible motives for the shooting.
According to Dorrell Williams Sr., he and his son’s relationship had become
strained because Dorrell Jr. had started keeping company with questionable characters
who he disapproved of and for that he claims his own life had been threatened
through text messages and phone calls.
The father also told 7News that there were unconfirmed reports that
his son’s girlfriend’s life was threatened in 2009 because she had
allegedly witnessed a murder. But like we noted in the story police investigation
strongly suggests that Dorrel Williams Jr. and the three other persons who were
all reportedly shot by two armed young men who started firing indiscriminately
on Central American Boulevard. Belize City police told 7News they know who they
are looking for and hopefully the suspects will soon be caught and arrested.
