21 year old Thiffara Waight is in jail tonight, accused of threatening her
neighbour on Fairweather Street with a gun. That neighbour is 46 year old Bernadette
Eqwuatu who says that she and Waight had an argument on Thursday evening. We
aren’t sure what the argument was about but Eqwuatu claims that Waight
went into her house and came out with a gun in her hand. Eqwuatu claims that
Waight told her children to move out of the way so she could shoot Eqwuatu which
is when she pointed the gun at her.
Eqwuatu says she feared for her life and so she ran into her house and called
police. Thiffara Waight was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.
She pleaded not guilty to the charge. Because it is an offence involving a firearm,
Waight was remanded to the Hattieville Prison until March 23rd.
