It has been just over a week now that seven year old Janay Moguel has been
hospitalized at Belize Healthcare Partners Limited where she has been undergoing
treatment for the bullet wound she received to her left upper shoulder that
caused major damage to her left lung and upper spine. Janay’s lung was
filled with blood and nearly collapsed and a chest tube had to be inserted to
drain the fluid. She was unable to breathe on her own and had to be placed on
a life support machine and intubated to allow her to breathe. Because of the
injury to the spine Janay was unable to move her left arm and both legs.
Today Janay Moguel is able to breathe on her own and she has since been transferred
from the Intensive Care Unit to the general ward but the possibility of her
not being able to walk again remains very real. 7News
understands that this morning Janay Moguel under went an MRI and a spinal tap.
The results were scheduled for late this evening and we should have an update
on tomorrow’s newscast on whether there has been any significant progress.
Janay’s neuro and spine surgeon Dr. Joel Cervantes told 7News
that his young patient will possibly need to travel abroad to receive appropriate
and advanced physical rehabilitation therapy and occupation therapy and that
all efforts are being made to get her the further medical treatment she desperately
needs. Sadly, financial donations have been slow and seven year old Janay Moguel
needs all the funds she can receive to help cover the medical expenses.
Janay’s parents Rose and Marvin continue to appeal for that financial
help for their daughter. To help seven year old Janay Moguel call her mother
rose at cell phone number 605-5641 or her father Marvin at cell phone number
