For the first time in over a decade the Belize Tourism Board will have a new
director. She is Seleni Matus, a Belizean living in the United States who’s
returning home to take the helm when overnight tourist arrivals were down almost
7% last year.
She holds a Masters Degree in Corporate Strategy and Governance from the University
of Nottingham in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor’s Degree in Personnel
Management from Viterbo College in Wisconsin.
According to a BTB release, she has ten years of professional experience designing
and directing initiatives that have mainstreamed sustainable tourism principles
into key sectors of the tourism industry. Matus has worked as ecotourism manager
at both the Washington based Conservation International and Programme for Belize.
She is expected to take up her post shortly.
