A San Pedro Town Councillor is under scrutiny tonight. Reports to 7News are
that earlier this week Canadian national Ralph Reiner made a complaint against
councillor Juan Alamilla. Remier alleged that last year he gave Alamilla US$35,000
which was the down payment for a beachfront property and an additional US$5,000
to dredge the property. Alamilla allegedly promised to secure the land for Reiner
through the government. But that never worked out and so feeling that he had
been conned, Reiner went to the police.
The Officer in Charge of the San Pedro Police Station Assistant Superintendent
of Police Dennis Arnold told us he knew nothing of the report. Alamilla himself
told us that this evening that the allegations are false and that he wasn’t
detained by police. In fact he says that he went to the police station voluntarily.
He says the issue has been settled out of court and maintained that he did nothing
wrong.
Additional reports to us are Alamilla also has questions to answer about some
checks he allegedly wrote to a hardware store in San Pedro from a Belize Bank
account that was closed in 2008. He told us that too has been settled.
Juan Alamilla who has served previously as Deputy Mayor is serving his third
term as a Councillor on the Town Board.
