Dara Robinson isn’t much concerned about proper land use though
– the priority for him is more like food use. The home grown community
activist has made collecting food for school feeding programmes his mission
and his brand. On Saturday, he held his annual Bob Marley Birthday concert event
and encouraged those who attended to bring canned food. Now, imagine going to
an event on Saturday night all dressed up and ready to dance but carrying two
cans of Vienna Sausage in your purse for a donation. Something’s just
not right with that picture!? But it worked. And today while most promoters
count their money, Dara was counting cans and he had plenty of them.
Dara Robinson,
“The people came out and they came out in full and the barrel really
get full at the show because like I said people from the districts and other
people came in and showed their love and support. So we have a beautiful set
of people in Belize who really want to help. This country is a loving set of
people for real because when I went to check the barrel I felt good because
I said what, things the happen. Most promoters are glad their show crowded but
I am happy when I see my barrel full because Jules you don’t know, I will
pick the poorest of the poorest. I went to the school and asked the teachers
to pick out some of the kids and I will bag them in a bag and separate and take
it to them and make sure they get it. You have people who come here today for
a little help and once I have sufficient here I will share it because it is
people who solid, I know they are suffering and thing. If God gives me the blessing
to got the food and I share, I rather give them food more than money.”
Dara’s next event will be held in August to honour Lucky Dube
– and the same rules will apply, bring a can or two of you can.
