Last night we told you about the forged checks that are circulating.
A few of those checks were from the Radisson Hotel. They surfaced two weeks
ago and were written in amounts of less than $2,000. Additionally they were
all cashed outside of Belize City. The Radisson’s General Manager Jim
Scott told us how they became aware of the forged checks.
Jim Scott, General Manager – Radisson Hotel
“They were not our checks. We are confident it wasn’t an inside
job because just none of it was our property, they were just reproduced and
copied. Initially it was just a couple checks and I do realize there were more
found but again that was all handled internally with the Belize Bank and staff
and of course the Police Department.
Through the help of Belize Bank and their security team there we have changed
our checks immediately and with the new checks we’ve ordered they will
have added security features, similar to how our currency is safeguarded.
I would discourage anyone from cashing second party checks, meaning a Radisson
check which is issued from the Belize Bank should be cashed at the Belize Bank.
That is going to be your best safeguard.”
According to police, there are also forged government and traveler’s
checks circulating.
