L.A. Reid – the boss at Island/Def Jam Records flew into Belize on his
private jet yesterday to sign a 7 figure recording contract with Moses Leivy
– the Belizean rapper formerly known as Jamal Shyne Barrow. Reid arrived
at 4:20 and the signing took place inside Shyne's penthouse at the Renaissance
Tower. L.A. Reid flew out shortly after the signing.
He wouldn't discuss the contract with us but sources close to the deal
tell us that the contract is for two albums and it's for US$7 million.
Reports say that it also includes a deal for a local female artist to record
with Shyne.
L.A. Reid is the Chairman of Island/Def Jam Records and was the co-founder
of Laface Records. He has signed big name artists like Mariah Carey, Usher,
and TLC. Shyne will be signed to the Gangland Records imprint. He is expected
to record the album in London. Reid told us yesterday that he will produce Shyne's
album.
