posted (February 23, 2010)

23 year old Eber Guerra, a farmer and father of one from San Estevan village accused of attempted murder was sentenced to 5 years in Belize City Supreme Court today. Justice Michelle Arana did the sentencing after he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of use of deadly means of harm with intent to cause wounding.

Mitigation pleas were made on his behalf but Justice Arana explained that she must give a custodial sentence because Guerra took a 14 year old girl form her bed, took her behind a bakery and stabbed her. It happened in the early morning of April 18, 2004.

The girl, a resident of Back street Caye Caulker reported that Guerra took her behind the village bakery and stabbed her several times in the right side of her breast with a small knife.
