Tonight two teams of Belizean youth basketball teams are in Guatemala playing
in regional competitions. Belize’s male under 13 and under 15 teams are
participating in a Central American tournament being held in Quezaltenango Guatemala.
In 2008, Belize ended a 30 year absence from international youth basketball
competition, and for this tournament five of the payers who went on that trip
form the core of the under 13 team. They are Jordon Usher, Sydney Bradley, Frederick
Williams, Andrew Vasquez and Roman Alvarez Jr. With the benefit of this experience,
the Belize Basketball Federation has high hopes for the tournament.
Additionally, this will be the first time Belize will be participating in the
Under 15 category. According to a release from the BBF, the development of a
structured youth system for male and female players is at the cornerstone of
the BBF’s strategic vision. We’ll tell you how the games are going
as soon as results are known.
The teams flew out on Maya Island Regional earlier this week and the tournament
was scheduled to start today.
