Adult Basketball Tip-off is March 5th
posted (February 25, 2010)

And while the youth basketballers are doing Belize proud in Guatemala, senior basketball is also making a comeback here at home. Senior basketball? Most of us haven’t heard abut that since the 80’s but it’s back all right in the 2010 “DIGICELL ballin-4-life” Tournament. Public relations officer Mark Usher told us that the tournament starts on March fifth and that’s only the beginning.

Mark Usher, Public Relations Officer
“It is going to be one of the best decades for basketball. We see ourselves, the group of us, as the BDBA, we see ourselves with a five year plan and that five year plan, we know we have to jump start the patient and that is why we had to in quotes rush this season but once the patient is now breathing then we quickly nurture the patient. So we have a five year plan. Next year when we come back around and we see what is going on, we expect to have 20 teams per category participating because the juice will be there, the excitement will be there. And then the next year, we are hopefully optimistic that we will be able to put together a pro-league and once you have a pro-league, you have established the industry that is basketball, an industry meaning the media makes money, the hairdresser makes money, everybody who is involved in the game – those who sell beverages make money and the economy churns. So that’s really what you want to do.”

Opening night on Friday March fifth will feature junior and senior games. The Sunday afternoon game on March 7th will feature female and senior games.
