And while the Teddy Murillo murder is the most news-making crime that happened over the weekend – there were three other shooting in Belize City. The Commissioner of Police Crispin Jeffries detailed them this morning.

Crispin Jeffries, Commissioner of Police
“Sometime around 7 pm Friday the 26th of February, police were called to the KHMH where they saw Tulio Caceres, who is a 25 year old, and he is a Belizean and he is an employee of the Ministry of Housing. Tulio Caceres is saying that sometime around 7:50 pm he was driving in his car on the canal side, West Canal, where someone fired several shots at him and they broke his vehicle glass and he was injured. The police issued medico-forms and that matter is under investigation.

On the 27th, this was at about 8:45 pm, again the police was called to the hospital and they saw one Eric Martinez, he is a 30 year old construction worker of a Belize City address. He was seen suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the upper left leg. Martinez is saying that he was approached by two male persons and they gave names, one of them he recognized, and they stood on Lancaster Street where both male persons fired several shots at him causing the injury. Action taken, the police is looking for those two male persons for questioning. I will not release the names at this time but we have some names.

On the 28th this one occurred at about 9:50 pm, this is Saturday night, police was called again to the KHMH where one Gary Wade, a Belizean labourer of a Ross Penn Road address, this is somewhere in the Yabra area, was seen suffering from gunshot wounds. Gary Wade is saying he was on Gill Street with friends when this incident occurred. He says he saw a firearm resembling a revolver and we have detained one Ramon August in connection with that incident and are in search of a second person.

So that one is well underway and then finally we have the incident where Hansel Arnold, a 19 year old, is reporting, and this was reported to the police on Friday night at around 11 pm, he is a labourer, he was seen suffering from gunshot wounds in the lower side of his abdomen and left pelvis area. Hansel Arnold was standing in front of Waxhouse, this is an area referred to as waxhouse, it is located on East Canal Street between King and Prince Streets. This is a well known area, it was an incident that police responded to and we only recovered expended shells but we have identified a suspect.”
