Last night we reported that police had intercepted a gang of armed
robbers after they cleaned out a grocery store in Los Lagos. They targeted Holiday
Supermarket which – like everything else in the Los Lagos Community at
mile 13 on the Northern Highway – is on a street without much traffic.
Shopkeeper Chun Mei Lin reported that between 12:00pm and 12:15 she was insider
her shop with a customer when three men wearing masks crept up beside her store
and stormed in. The office in charge of Ladyville’s Police Station Inspector
Calbert Flowers told us what happened next.
Insp. Calbert Flowers, OIC - Ladyville Police
“We received information that they went into the store, two occupants, two of them had firearms, they held up the occupants and stole items.”
Keith Swift,
“It was just cash and the phone cards?”
Insp. Calbert Flowers,
“So far cash, phone cards, assorted cigarettes and liquor. The quick
response of the police apprehended three male persons who were heading towards
Belize City in a car, believed to be suspects of this robbery. The detention
of these persons led to the discovery of most of the items that were stolen
from that robbery including assorted telephone prepaid cards, a small amount
of cash, the video camera, and an assortment of liquor. Three persons have been
detained pending charges of robbery and possession of firearm and ammunition
as the firearm was found in the car.
We were on the lookout for this vehicle with these occupants before this
incident. We were on the lookout for these occupants. We had information that
they were going around committing these robberies. We believe that they are
responsible for at least one other prior robbery.”
The men in the car are 21 year old Channing Godoy of North Creek, 27
year old Reginald Garroy (Garoy) of Vernon Street, 26 year old Kareem Williams
of Supal Street and 30 year old Ronald Cox unemployed of North Creek Belize
City.
