There was another weekend gun killing in the city and police say its
murder. Investigators are tonight searching for Jeffrey Kelly’s killer.
The 26 year old was gunned down in front of the neighbourhood shop around 7
pm last night on Prince Street. Here’s more.
Keith Swift Reporting,
This was the scene last night on Prince Street. Jeffrey “Gabla”
Kelly was shot while buying a soft drink at Deng’s Shop – located
at the corner of Prince Street and East Canal Street – just a few feet
from his home.
Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press officer
“Kelly was shot sometime around 7 o’clock at the corner of Prince
Street and East Canal in Belize City while he was standing outside a Chinese
grocery shop waiting to be served. Apparently a dark complexioned male person
rode up on a bicycle and fired several shots on him causing the fatal injuries.”
Police say they recovered 7 expended shells from the crime scene. Jeffrey Kelly wasn’t known to be involved in criminal activities but police believe
that he was the target.
Fitzroy Yearwood,
“From the investigators’ observation, they could have seen injuries
to his back and to his head at the time.”
Keith Swift,
“And this is 7 pm, a lot of people around?”
Fitzroy Yearwood,
“Well I am not sure if a lot of people were around but it is in the
earlier part of the night.”
Keith Swift,
“Do you believe that he was the target?”
Fitzroy Yearwood,
“Well police recovered seven expended nine milimeter shells from the
scene. From the amount of shells recovered, he was obviously the intended target
of the shooter.”
The question is who wanted Jeffrey Kelly dead and why.
Unconfirmed reports are that Jeffrey Kelly’s murder may have
been revenge. Anyone with information on the murder of Jeffrey Martindale Kelly
is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 0-800-922-TIPS.
