All roads will lead to the beach in Placencia this Easter weekend where
there will be two major dancehall concerts. First up will be Mavado who will
perform on Saturday night on the beach. It will be Mavado’s second trip
to Belize but it will be the first for Assassin and Dr. Evil. They will perform
on Sunday night as part of the Reggae Beachfest – a two day event which
will be hosted by Tiffany from BET. The artists aren’t here yet but Tiffany
who hosted the BET Countdown for a year and a half is. She arrived today and
spoke to Keith Swift.
Tiffany, Hosting Reggae Beachfest
“I literally just got off the plane and man I am in love with the
people, the reception has been wonderful so far so I know this weekend is going
to be great. Number one I am going to be there, I am going to be fabulous and
we are going to have a lot of fun, but there will be live entertainment, Assassin
is going to perform, Dr. Evil, Wyclef Refugees All Stars, Ras Indio, and again
myself- I will be there and we are going to have a lot of fun and I have a lot
of great things that is going to take place that day and I am not going to tell
anybody so you come out. I am going to give away some things as well, I know
you like the word FREE so just come out and let’s have fun.”

“It is going to be two days and two nights. In the day we are going
to have events on the beach and on Saturday night it is the autograph night
where Tiffany, the entourage from New York, all the selectors that are going
to be coming for Saturday and Sunday, they will be there for Saturday night.
Assassin is going to be flying in on Sunday because he has a show on Saturday
night in Jamaica. On Sunday night, that is the big event on the beach. We just
want to encourage everybody to have a safe weekend. There will be a lot of travelling
so whatever choices you make or which show you decide to go see just make the
right choice for the weekend.”
Tiffany now hosts a show on Hot 97 Television in New York. And while
Mavado should receive an eager reception by his Belizean fans, the popular dancehall
artist was recently banned from performing a concert in Barbados. It was billed
as a unity concert with rival performer Vybz Cartel but the Barbadian government
didn’t want anything to do with either “gaza” or “gully”
and cancelled the concert which had been scheduled for last weekend.
According to regional news reports, Prime Minister David Thompson said
that the main concern was the idea of these artistes being portrayed as role
models. He was quoted as saying, "anything that has to be done to protect
our children in this country will be done.”
