$230,000 Stolen from A&R In Free Zone
posted (April 7, 2010)

Earlier in the news we told you about two armed robberies but there was a burglary in the Free Zone much bigger then either of those. Thieves broke into A&R in the Free Zone and got off with major figures – in fact so much so, the numbers even rival the Scotia Bank robbery. The manager 31 year old Helen Ek reported to police that it happened sometime between Easter Sunday and Tuesday morning where burglars stole two Sentry brand iron safes in the manager’s office.

According to police, the money inside safe number one included $106,320 in Belize currency, almost 300,000 pesos which is equivalent to $46,444 in Belize currency and $36,219 US Dollars. That’s a total of over $224,000 in just one safe.

Add that to another US$396, $7,400 pesos which is equivalent to $1,233 Belize currency and another BZ$3,113 from safe two for a grand total of $230,000 from both safes. And though police provided those figures, they put the total at just $135,000. Police are investigating.
