Five days after twenty seven year old Andrea Jenkins was busted with cannabis
in her underwear, a second woman, nineteen year old Julia Vaccaro, suffered
the same fate. At around 1:15 yesterday afternoon, she was searched at Kolbe
Foundation Prison in Hattieville and 5.5 grams of cannabis was allegedly found
hidden in the lining of the waist of her pants. Vaccaro pleaded not guilty to
drug trafficking when she appeared today in the Number two Magistrate’s
Court.
Although the prosecution did not object to bail, the Magistrate Sharon Fraser
who dealt with Jenkin’s case asked Vaccaro to give her a good reason why
she should grant her bail. Vaccaro replied that she is a student and is the
mother of an eight month old baby. Vaccaro said she went to prison to visit
her boyfriend, Leon Gray who is remanded on a charge of murder.
Before she offered Vaccaro a bail of $6,000, Magistrate Fraser brought to her
attention, Jenkin’s case which was on the news and chastised Vaccaro for
putting herself in the same position. Vaccaro is to return to court on June
17th.
