Minor Takes the Rap for Unlicensed Weapon
posted (April 28, 2010)
A 15-year-old boy, one of five persons charged with having a home-made shotgun without a gun license, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared today in the #3 Magistrate's Court. Magistrate Kathleen Lewis remanded the boy into custody at Boot Camp until May 14th for sentencing because a report has to be provided by a Community Rehabilitation Officer.

The boy and two other minors and two adults, 34-year-old Elroy Smith and 20-year-old, Bruce Trapp, were charged when police searched a house at 162 West Canal Street yesterday and found the homemade 12-gauge shotgun with two cartridges. The five were also charged with keeping ammunition without a gun license and the 15-year-old also wanted to plead guilty to that charge. But Magistrate Lewis entered a plea of not guilty when the boy said the only one of the cartridges belonged to him. The charges were withdrawn from the other defendants.
