Police Open Day
posted (April 28, 2010)
We all know about schools having open days – but today the Police Department's Community Policing Unit had one for schools at the Wilt Cummerbatch Field in Belize City.

It had the participation of the YWCA, Y-E-S, BFLA, NCFC, and the ministry of health. Sergeant Deanne Williams explained:

Sergeant Deanne Williams, OC Community Policing, Belize City
"We are having an open day where we invite the same agencies that we work with on a day-to-day basis to come into the communities so that the community members, the schools could know what services are available for them. This idea came about because of our Zone Beat Liaison Program where our police officers visit the schools, the home, and the business, and they have concerns. When they visit these places, there are concerns. And we realize that some of our community members have no idea what services are out there. So we decided to have this Open Day so they could get an opportunity, a one-on-one opportunity with the agencies who provide community service."
