Police Under Tactical Attack
posted (May 10, 2010)
There was a very serious tactical and calculated attack on the mile three western highway mile 3 police checkpoint on Sunday morning. At 1:20 am Police constable Kareem Fuller was on duty inside the booth with BDF privates Julian Coc and Fidelio Canti. Suddenly, they heard gun shots from an automatic type weapon. Fuller and the two soldiers scrambled for cover. Constable Wayne Oliver who was seated outside the booth waiting for a ride shouted that the gunfire was coming from the bush facing the booth.

He saw two masked men walk out of the bushed across and fire of several shots at the booth. No one was hit and the two soldiers then returned fire towards the bush.

Shortly after, a grey pickup truck coming from Belize City stopped directly in front of the police booth near the door and the driver demanded to see the police man on duty. When he didn't come out, they sped off and a police patrol responding to the gunshots set chase after them. They caught up with them in Hattieville by the roundabout and both the driver, 38 year old Elvin Roberto Torres, and 20 year old Reginald Young.

Nothing was found in their pickup but they were detained nonetheless. Police note that a number of bullet holes were found on the booth and five.40 caliber Aguila brand expended shells were found on the road side near the bush. Police also found a pair of binoculars and machetes which the shooters had used to clear a path to the booth.
