Stolen Guatemalan Tow-Head Impounded
posted (May 10, 2010)
Benque police aren't quite sure what to make of a Guatemalan freightliner tow - head that was left at the Belize Guatemala border on Saturday morning. It is being treated as a stolen vehicle – but this one doesn't match the profile of stolen SUV's. In fact it was simply abandoned at the border: The officer commanding Benque Viejo told us more.

Insp. Dinsdale Thompson, O.C. Benque Viejo
"We have indeed found out that a stolen vehicle has come to the territories of Belize. We have witness who have said that Guatemalan Police have entered into Belizean territory, who was searching this vehicle. However upon arrival at the location we haven't found the Guatemalans at the scene. They were over on their side, but the truck was in the territory of Belize. At the moment that truck is in the Customs parking lot area and we do have that in custody. We are connecting with our authorities in higher places to see what would be the next step relating to that. Our investigation is saying that we have information that the truck was intercepted first by Guatemalan Authorities. We were called out by eyewitnesses that was on the scene saying that this truck in on Belizean territory and Guatemalans are on our territory. We then went out there to find out what is the situation with the truck."

Other reports say the driver left the vehicle there and walked over to Belize.

It remains impounded at customs tonight.
