Gales Point Woman Says, “What’s The Point?”
posted (May 14, 2010)
A woman from Gales Point Manatee isn't making anywhere near the same demands that Petillo's group is - though her displeasure with police is great. Ionie Slusher says her brothers and nephew have been held by police for a week on a bogus charge and she hasn't gotten he chance to get bail for them. It all started last weekend when the victorious village council was having a post election bash and someone broke a pint on the village policeman's head. It was an accident - but the cop says Mark Slusher, Mervyn Macdonald and Norman Slusher were responsible. They were detained on Saturday and charged in Dangriga court for assault and wounding - two eminently bailable offences. But no bail was granted as the case was transferred to Belize City. Today their sister came looking for those court paper and was told her relatives would have to spend another weekend in lockdown because the papers weren't here.

Ionie Slusher - brothers detained for a week without bail
"The lady told us that how they will get bail today at the court. When we got at the court house the lady said that there was no paper."

Jules Vasquez
"This is Belize City court?"

Ionie Slusher
"Yes Belize City court, she said that she does not have the paper and that she will get the paper next week. It's almost a week now and he is being hold for nothing, he did not do anything. When they arrested my brother he was at a party dancing. I don't see how one person could be at two places at the same time. I want them to stop harass my family, because we are getting police harassment for months now. I am tired of this. I want justice."

Dangriga court confirmed that they sent the papers and best information is that they will be processed in the Belize Court next week.
